Functional braces are used to help improve both the bite and contribute to a harmonious facial profile effective during the early teenage years.
This type of treatment works best when patients are growing rapidly. Rapid growth takes place during the pubertal growth spurt and is usually from the age of 12 onwards in girls and 13 onwards in boys, although this does vary from person to person.
Functional braces posture the lower jaw in a more forward position, correcting the bite and creating a more harmonious facial profile.
Functional braces can be either fixed or removable. Either way, they need to be worn 24 hours a day in order to work effectively.
